INTRODUCTION TO TWIN PALMS
This paragraph provides an overview of Twin Palms, detailing the main features and facilities. Reference to specific details in the manual is provided (where applicable). 
LOCATION
Twin Palms is situated approximately 2 km’s from the beach, on the foothills of the Noordhoek Mountain. Noordhoek is located in the northern corner of the lovely Fish Hoek – Kommetjie – Noordhoek valley, in a central position on the Cape Peninsula (between Cape Town to the north, and Cape Point to the south, both off Ou Kaapse Weg).

SHIPSHAPE (2012 Edition) – Sigma Serving the SA Navy    

The untimely breakdown of key plant, systems and equipment hits all organisations hard. This is true, be it a business running a factory failing to meet production targets and deadlines, or a naval vessel unable to complete its mission. The more frequently such breakdowns occur, and the longer the time taken to restore them, the greater the negative impact will be on either the bottom line (as with a factory), or in the ability to accomplish a mission (as with a naval vessel). For a naval vessel, the breakdown of key equipment leading to the inability to perform a required function, can result in an entire mission being aborted (e.g. radar scanner, necessary for a surveillance mission).

The untimely breakdown of key plant and equipment hits organisations hard. The more such events occur and the longer the time taken to rectify them, the greater the negative impact on the bottom line. All organisations involved in production and services that use equipment, have this critical reliance on their equipment’s availability and proper functioning. Of importance, among the many systems/equipment that contribute to the multitude of operations, some are more critical to output, than others. A single failure in a critical equipment can bring a whole plant to a standstill. Why does prolonged or repetitive breakdown count against the bottom line? Simple, the objective of business is to make money.  The simplistic view is:  Income – Expenses = Profit.

SHIP YEAR (2005 Edition) – Prime Mission Equipment – NLMS for SA Navy Patrol Corvettes   

The Naval Logistic Management System (NLMS) is a computer resource used in the logistic management and support of the Prime Mission Equipment (PME) of the new SA Navy Patrol Corvettes MEKO® A-200. The NLMS is being acquired by the SA Navy as part of the Corvette Acquisition Programme from the German shipyard Blohm+Voss GmbH, who as part of the German Frigate Consortium (GFC) are responsible for the delivery of the Platform (i.e. the basic ship without weapon systems). The NLMS is for Onboard and Ashore use, based on a personal computer system designed to support logistic support tasks. The NLMS provides: a. Access to logistical data, including the input and control of relevant information such as maintenance scheduling, stores management and the generation of Job Cards (preventive and corrective maintenance). b. Failure Report initiation and management. This is part of the Failure Recording, Analysis And Corrective Action System (FRACAS).

SHIP YEAR (2004 Edition) – Electronic Military Information in the SA Navy: An Affordable Solution  

In the context of electronic information systems in a Naval environment, this paper presents a specific case where available technology has been utilised and developed to provide a cost-effective logistic support solution for an operational need of the SA Navy. This need was to have cost effective logistic resources (i.e. technical manuals, training packages, etc) to support the operating and maintenance functions of the SAS OUTENIQUA, one of the SA Navy’s new Combat Support Vessels. Considering the military acquisitions and sometimes costly approaches of previous era’s, as well as the current budgetary constraints, it was vital from the outset to focus on the cost of ownership of the system to be acquired, to ensure that the fielded system (and equipment) could be supported affordably within the projected budgets (in both medium and long term).

INCOSE Conference 2016  –  Opportunity to Realise a Tailor-made ILS Solution  (CSIR Convention Centre, Pretoria)

Abstract. Within the field of System Engineering, the importance of the Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) component cannot be understated, underpinning as it does the feasibility and relevance of the “whole system”, “whole life”, “whole cost” concept and approach. While new technologies are important for ILS, the use of “existing” technologies is equally important, especially when they are “tried and tested”, and in use effectively in particular operational environments (thus providing resource and cost reduction opportunities, as well as standardization benefits).
